28 May 2026
The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office (IDPC), represented by legal counsel Sasha Muscat, participated in the 2026 meeting of the British, Irish, and Islands Data Protection Authorities (BIIDPA), hosted by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority (GRA) in its capacity as Information Commissioner. The meeting was held on 19 May 2026.
Bringing together data protection regulators from Bermuda, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Malta and the United Kingdom, the forum provided a valuable platform for strengthening supervisory cooperation, exchanging regulatory insights, and promoting consistency across these jurisdictions.
Key discussions focused on:
- Data protection in global financial hubs
- Children’s privacy
- AI literacy and regulatory readiness
- Cybersecurity and data breach management
- Subject Access Request enforcement challenges
The meeting underscored the importance of international collaboration in addressing shared regulatory challenges and ensuring robust, consistent protection of individuals’ data rights in an evolving digital landscape.
The evening programme also offered delegates the opportunity to experience Gibraltar’s rich history and cultural heritage in an informal setting.
The IDPC thanks the GRA for hosting this year’s meeting and all participating authorities for their continued commitment to cooperation and engagement.
