IDPC and Gibraltar Regulatory Authority sign memorandum of understanding

In the margins of the 44th Global Privacy Assembly hosted by the Turkish Data Protection Authority in Istanbul from 25th to 28th October 2022, Commissioner Deguara and Gibraltar Regulatory Authority’s CEO John Paul Rodriguez signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation.

With more than two decades of regulatory experience under its belt, the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority is currently responsible to oversee compliance with a wide portfolio of regulations which includes communications, data protection, broadcasting, postal services, higher education, freedom of information and cybersecurity.

The GRA and the IDPC, which are both members of the BIIDPA (British, Irish and islands data protection authorities) network, enjoy a longstanding relationship which the recently signed memorandum will strengthen even further, in the interest of businesses and individuals.

The memorandum introduced a number of collaboration mechanisms such as exchange of best practices and mutual assistance by means of which the two authorities expect to streamline their respective regulatory duties.
