Global Privacy Enforcement Network (GPEN)
In 2015, this Office joined the Global Privacy Enforcement Network which is a network intended to foster cross border cooperation among privacy and data protection authorities.
By virtue of a Recommendation adopted in June 2007 by OECD Governments, member countries were mandated to develop an informal network for the specific purpose of exchanging information and discuss practical aspects of enforcement cooperation through a dedicated online platform.
In June 2012 the GPEN Action Plan was adopted.
More valuable information may be accessed on the GPEN portal.
BIIDPA
BIIDPA stands for British, Irish and Islands’ Data Protection Authorities of the UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Jersey, Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar and Bermuda. A meeting is held on an annual basis where the organisation is volunteered by one of the respective authorities.
Discussions at these meetings are informal in nature and provide the right platform for the exchange of useful information to ensure a consistent approach to the treatment of issues which are of common interest.
The Commissioner actively participates in this meeting.
Eurodac
Malta is one of the representatives at Eurodac Supervision Coordination Group (Eurodac SCG), a group that aims for the consistent application of Eurodac Regulation (Regulation EU 603/2013). This group is composed of representatives of the national data protection authorities and the EDPS. Meetings are usually twice a year.
Such Regulation relates to the comparison of fingerprints by the Member States, for purposes of examining, inter alia, an application for international protection lodged in a Member State by a third-country national or a stateless person.
